The following table lists dates from 1836 through 1981 and gives the corresponding type of patent and assigned number that began each year. Therefore, if you know a patent date, you can easily narrow down the year the patent was issued.
- Invention - Something not previously known or existing,
- Reissue - Continues the rights of the inventor where the Patent was defective, or major improvement/clarification made,
- Design - A new appearance to a manufactured article that enhances its sale.
